Me By the Sea

from Lazy Sundays Vol. 1 by Lobelia

/

about

This is from Ghost of a Dog, the second Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians record, it's a quirky album and I love it so much. I was fooling around on the piano and trying to decide what to play for the next songwriter session when this song just appeared in my playing quite magically. I'd never tried to play it before but it's so simple and lovely.

lyrics

I'm glad no one's here
Just me by the sea
I'm glad no one's here
To mess it up for me
But man I wish I had a hand to hold.

I saw an old starfish
On the side of a rock
I poked on his back
And tried to pull him off
A crab scared me away
He ran close to my toe
But man I wish I had a hand to hold

I'm in the habit
of being along
I try hard to break it
I can't on my own

I'm glad no one's here
Just me by the sea
I'm glad no one's here
To mess it up for me
But man I wish I had a hand to hold.
